This is a misnamed trilogy by Douglass Adams; great read, but it starts to get depressing by the third book, "So Long and Thanks for the Fish". We're introduced to Fenchurch, Arthur's girlfriend, in this particular book--if you want to stay happy as a clam, read the first and second books, "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" and "Restaurant at the End of the Universe". There's an extreme amount of witty dialogue, the pacing is fast, and though the direction is arbitrary, Douglass Adams never loses sight of details he mentioned books earlier--he's got pretty amazing memorization skills.
My favorite part of the series is--Dear God, there's a lot, but I freakin' love the swamp full of mattresses. They are so cute! The movie only covers the first book, but I swear, when I saw it, it totally reminded me of the book. Except for Ford. I thought he was white. But he's even funnier in the movie, and he's excellent and played by Mos Def!!! LMAO!!
I think later on I'll mention more serious books. But this is a good starter for the book thread because the read is light, easy, thought-provoking and ironical, and more than anything else, it's EXTREMELY HILARIOUS!!
Coming up:
-Requests for genre? Romance, action-adventure, mystery? I think because I'm in college I'm more focused on British and American literature, but I have been reading some other reads around the world that're completely awesome.
-Anyone interested in hearing about the book I just wrote? Tons of cussing and racism in it, though. Not sure who I might offend.
